According to , an agreement has been reached between D.C. United, Everton and Wayne Rooney s representative Paul Stretford regarding the former England and Manchester United captain moving to Washington, ending his 16-year spell in the English Premier League.
Rooney started his professional career at Everton before moving to Manchester United in 2004, being just under 19 years old. He made 559 appearances and scored 253 goals for the Red Devils, winning a host of trophies including five Premier League titles, a Champions League and a Europa League trophy.
He returned to his boyhood club in the summer of 2017 as a seasoned player, well past his best, but he still played 40 games in all competitions, mostly in a midfield role from which he found the net 11 times.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed Everton are keen on signing Charlton Athletic youngster Ademola Lookman, but was more dismissive of other transfer links.
The Dutchman conceded there was interest in the boy , referencing the 19-year-old Charlton forward, who only made his professional debut in November 2015.
Lookman has scored seven goals this season for the mid-table League One side and has caps to his name at England Under-19 and U-20 level.
But Everton boss Koeman was not so willing to divulge any further information on possible targets, adding: We are working on that. We have some interest in certain players, but we need to keep that inside.
Some names are true, some are not true. Most of the time it s b******t!

Bruno Fernandes scored his first Premier League goal in nearly three months as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to take another big step towards securing a top-four finish.
United threw away a two-goal lead in the midweek draw with Spurs that upset their momentum a little, but returned to winning ways against a Villa side who were threatening to enter top-four contention.
One of the Premier League s form teams since Unai Emery s October appointment, Villa went close to an opener first, though United were good value for the lead when Fernandes punished questionable goalkeeping from Emiliano Martinez.
Despite putting Villa under intense pressure for much of the second half, additional goals were not forthcoming for United, who were u…
Real Mallorca striker Achille Webo has said he foresees a bright and exciting future for Cameroon after a gutsy display by several upcoming players against defending champions Egypt in a Nations Cup quarter-final here on Monday.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon fell 3-1 to Egypt, but Webo said several younger players, who were picked ahead of their more experienced teammates, showed that they could soon take over the mantle of the national team.
The younger players in the team have shown that they are capable of taking over from the older generation. They proved they can live with the best, said Webo, who came on a second half substitute in what was a rematch of the 2008 final of the Nations Cup in Ghana.
There was nothing to be ashamed by this defeat, but r…
Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has fond memories of facing Saturday s Ligue 1 opponents Bastia.
The Sweden captain became PSG s all-time top scorer with a double in the 2-1 win over Marseillie before the international break, which took his tally for the club to 110 in just 137 games.
Of all those goals, the 34-year-old revealed that an improvised volley against Bastia in October 2013 who the Ligue 1 champions and leaders travel to face this weekend remains his favourite.
The scorpion-kick against Bastia [was the best], while I think my celebration was even more beautiful, Ibrahimovic told PSG s official website.
In wanting to jump over the billboard, I slipped and fell I suddenly disappeared.
But the ball was in the goal, whi…
James Rodriguez has reiterated he wants to be playing much more for Real Madrid, though he insists his relationship with head coach Zinedine Zidane is respectful.
Despite initially settling in well at the Santiago Bernabeu following his reported €80million move from Monaco in July 2014, the Colombia international has fallen badly out of favour.
There have been constant reports claiming a breakdown in James relationship with Zidane since the former World Cup winner s appointment in January, as the Frenchman continues to prefer other options.
So far this season James has made just four appearances in LaLiga, only two of which were from the start, but he is quick to dismiss suggestions he is on poor terms with Zidane despite his frustration over playing time.

Mexico preserved their 100 per cent record in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying after edging Costa Rica 1-0 away from home.
Orbelin Pineda converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time and it proved to be enough on Sunday as Mexico made it two wins from two games in the Octagonal section of qualifying on the road to Qatar 2022.
Mexico head coach Gerardo Martino did not travel to Costa Rica after undergoing eye surgery and assistant Jorge Teller deputised in the absence of the former Barcelona and Argentina boss.
El Tri were underwhelming in their opening 2-1 win over Jamaica and they made another timid start on the road – Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa forced into a save to deny Costa Rica captain Bryan Ruiz.

Two sides making a return to Nation League duties on Friday night, Bosnia Herzegovina will host Montenegro in what could be an enjoyable affair.
Starting with the hosts, last seen heading into the summer break with an action-packed display on home soil, Bosnia Herzegovina are enjoying what has been an extended purple patch. Eventually claiming a 3-2 victory against Finland on June 14th, the Dragons are unbeaten in each of their opening four Nations League showdowns. Although Ivaylo Petev s men might have endured a worrying four-match losing run on either side of 2022, the Blues should be boosted by a rather rampant record in front of their own supporters. Including that 3-2 win against Finland last time out, Bosnia Herzegovina …
Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi has hailed the contribution of new manager Rudi Garcia ahead of the new Serie A season.
Garcia replaced ex-interim manager Aurelio Andreazzoli at the Stadio Olimpico last month and has already recruited Kevin Strootman and Maicon.
And 22-year-old Florenzi, who has been with the club since 2010, believes the new coach is the man to get the best from the players and improve on their sixth-place league finish last season.
He s a really good coach. He talks a lot with the team and wants a lot from us on the pitch, he told Sky Sport.
Compared to last year, he wants less directness and more ball possession. He wants a lot of interchange (between midfielders), passes on the ground and, when possible, balls up towards the strikers.…
Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has left the door open on a potential move to Juventus, despite saying he is happy to stay.
The 27-year-old started just 11 Premier League matches for City last season and has struggled for regular football due to the presence of French left-back Gael Clichy.
Kolarov has been linked with a switch to Serie A champions Juventus recently, and when quizzed about the rumours, he declared that he would be interested.
The Serbian was also at pains to state he was not seeking a way out of Manchester immediately, but added that if he was not a regular under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, then he would be keen on an exit from England.
I m happy at City and it is my intention to remain, Kolarov told Tuttosport.
