Some people are fans of the Carolina Panthers. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Carolina Panthers. This 2012 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read the other Why Your Team Sucks 2012 previews here. 1. Congratulations to Ryan Kalil for jinxing the shit out of his own team. There are few more tiresome storylines in sports than "X athlete guarantees a victory," because every athlete thinks they're going to win every game, and that's the way athletes SHOULD think. It's not controversial to declare your certainty of success. It means you're just as blindly arrogant as the douche in the other locker room. HOWEVAH, there's a marked difference between expressing that kind of thing off the cuff and taking out a full page ad telling people seven months in advance that you're gonna win a championship. Real easy for you to say, Ryan Kalil. Cam Newton is the one doing all the fucking work. He's the quarterback, the running back, the blocking back, AND Peter King says he leads the league in entertainer/iconoship 101. Now everyone's gonna look to him to back up your stupid fucking ad. NO ONE EVEN READS NEWSPAPERS ANYMORE. Let's take a closer look at this ad: For eighteen years we've wanted, hoped, and tried… Oh, please. Cleveland and Detroit fans spit on your supposed "long wait." At least you got to go to a damn Super Bowl. A moment is upon us, were dreams become beliefs and yearning becomes conviction You stole that from a Rhonda Byrne book. You'll see July 1st, 1993, when 40,000 of you bought club seats, licenses, and luxury boxes, financing the construction of our stadium in a single day. Oh, and could you possibly do that again? Because Jerry Richardson is already tired of this stadium and wants his own Jerryworld because he's an asshole. Now, look closer. ZOMG I SEE MENA SUVARI NUDE IN A ROSE PETAL BATH. At the daunting, unpaved path ahead, lined with detours, naysayers, and walls which seem insurmountable. But not for you. You'll ignore what you hear and break through ANYTHING that stands in your way. No I won't. The fuck are you putting this on MY shoulders for? Christ, does Ryan Kalil plan on doing ANY of this himself? He's farming out labor to Cam Newton AND to newspaper readers. SOUNDS LIKE A FREELOADER TO ME. Anyway, thanks to Kalil, the Panthers are doomed now. Especially since… 2. Fuck your dark horse status. I've been around long enough to know that consensus preseason dark horse teams ALWAYS end up eating shit. Take it from the idiot who thought he'd be all clever and pick the Bucs to win the NFC last season (and the Jets to beat them in the Super Bowl). All it takes is one bad bout of tendinitis in Cam Newton's knee for this to suddenly become a 2-14 team. There's nothing behind him except for Horse Balls Anderson and Jimmy Clausen's speedo. Given how high you're gonna take Newton in your fantasy draft next week, it's practically a given that some enterprising young defensive end will decide to go rolling sideways into one of his hinge joints. And then where will you be, Ryan Kalil? FUCKED, that's where you'll be. 3. Ron Rivera: possibly stupid. Remember, it was Rivera who called timeout with two seconds left at the end of the first half against the Saints last October, giving the Saints (who had no timeouts left) a chance to kick a field goal that would end up providing the decisive margin. I assume that's what Kalil was referring to when he said "detours." OOPS MEXICAN MIKE TICE JUST TOOK THE WIND IN OVERTIME. Drew Magary writes for Deadspin and Gawker. He's also a correspondent for GQ. Follow him on Twitter @drewmagary and email him at [email protected]. 4. Welcome to the three-headed RBBC of death. There's Jonathan Stewart. There's DeAngelo Williams. And now there's Mike Tolbert. And ALL of them will have their touchdowns vultured by Newton down at the goal line. I'm gonna end up drafting Stewart in Round 6 and then spend the next three months praying that DeAngelo, Newton, and Tolbert all suffer horrific injuries. That's what makes fantasy football fun! 4a. Never forget: Steve Smith punches babies. 5. Hear it from Panthers fans! Greg: Everyone has high hopes for the Panthers this year, which is exactly why I expect them to again disappoint the shit out of everyone. Can Cam repeat last year? No chance. Not at all. We also spent the entire off-season padding positions that we don't need. The Charlotte Observer just announced that Kuechly will be slated as the fourth LB this year behind Thomas Davis, whose knee is made of balsa wood. By doing this, they are letting Beason play his natural position of MLB for now. When (not if) Thomas Davis's thrice shredded ACL disintegrates, they will be shifting the LB corps around to positions they have never played. Mike Tolbert is playing for us? At fullback? And we still have J stew and Williams? We don't need another T/DT/CB/S? Great. Also, Jerry Richardson is racist. The rebranding of our logo was the biggest waste of time and money I have seen since this team's inception. We ended up with essentially the EXACT same logo, with the same glaring teal color that screams "This was drawn up in the 90's." It voided every single piece of Panthers clothing I had by replacing the existing logo with a drunk/squinting/winking-with-other-eye-brow-raised cat wearing a Phantom of the Opera mask. Thanks assholes. Dan: Cortland Finnegan and Mario Williams were there to be had for a team that was a good defense away from playing in the postseason but fuck it we need a 3RD FUCKING RUNNING BACK. For reasons unknown to anyone besides Jerry Richardson Mike Tolbert is now a Panther. If I didn't know any better Jerry Richardson is forcing Cam Newton into leaving for New England just because he wants to write him a hate letter in comic sans. Erik: Never before in history has a team gone into a draft or the offseason with their needs clearly defined and just completely and unabashedly ignored them. Now we must sit and pray for an entire season while no-name running backs curb stomp our defensive line. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, a gathering of goofball wide receivers will participate in the annual ritual of trying to save Steve Smith from getting gangbanged prison style by defensive back triple teams. As a frame of reference, Legedu Naanee was the lucky winner last year, and this year will most certainly involve overdrafted Armanti Edwards running routes drawn by a 3 year old with an Etch a Sketch. All of this follows an offseason filled with reports of Panthers' staff being excited for undrafted free agents, as if finding the next Victor Cruz involves throwing a dart at a US map and scouting the nearest community college. Thankfully we picked up fat boy running back Mike Tolbert, because we certainly didn't have enough skill at the position. Finally, throw in the guaranteed slew of season ending injuries that will happen either during or before the first game, like Jon Beason, David Gettis, or perhaps Ron Edwards who tore his triceps while tying his shoes at the first practice last year, and this is why the Panthers suck. Wanna be part of the Deadspin NFL previews? It's simple. Just email me and give me ample evidence of why your team sucks. I'll throw any good material into the post and give you proper credit. According to , an agreement has been reached between D.C. United, Everton and Wayne Rooney s representative Paul Stretford regarding the former England and Manchester United captain moving to Washington, ending his 16-year spell in the English Premier League.
Rooney started his professional career at Everton before moving to Manchester United in 2004, being just under 19 years old. He made 559 appearances and scored 253 goals for the Red Devils, winning a host of trophies including five Premier League titles, a Champions League and a Europa League trophy.
He returned to his boyhood club in the summer of 2017 as a seasoned player, well past his best, but he still played 40 games in all competitions, mostly in a midfield role from which he found the net 11 times.

Ronald Koeman has confirmed Everton are keen on signing Charlton Athletic youngster Ademola Lookman, but was more dismissive of other transfer links.
The Dutchman conceded there was interest in the boy , referencing the 19-year-old Charlton forward, who only made his professional debut in November 2015.
Lookman has scored seven goals this season for the mid-table League One side and has caps to his name at England Under-19 and U-20 level.
But Everton boss Koeman was not so willing to divulge any further information on possible targets, adding: We are working on that. We have some interest in certain players, but we need to keep that inside.

Bruno Fernandes scored his first Premier League goal in nearly three months as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to take another big step towards securing a top-four finish.
United threw away a two-goal lead in the midweek draw with Spurs that upset their momentum a little, but returned to winning ways against a Villa side who were threatening to enter top-four contention.
One of the Premier League s form teams since Unai Emery s October appointment, Villa went close to an opener first, though United were good value for the lead when Fernandes punished questionable goalkeeping from Emiliano Martinez.
Despite putting Villa under intense pressure for much of the second half, additional goals were not forthcoming for United, who were u…
Real Mallorca striker Achille Webo has said he foresees a bright and exciting future for Cameroon after a gutsy display by several upcoming players against defending champions Egypt in a Nations Cup quarter-final here on Monday.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon fell 3-1 to Egypt, but Webo said several younger players, who were picked ahead of their more experienced teammates, showed that they could soon take over the mantle of the national team.
The younger players in the team have shown that they are capable of taking over from the older generation. They proved they can live with the best, said Webo, who came on a second half substitute in what was a rematch of the 2008 final of the Nations Cup in Ghana.
There was nothing to be ashamed by this defeat, but r…
Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has fond memories of facing Saturday s Ligue 1 opponents Bastia.
The Sweden captain became PSG s all-time top scorer with a double in the 2-1 win over Marseillie before the international break, which took his tally for the club to 110 in just 137 games.
Of all those goals, the 34-year-old revealed that an improvised volley against Bastia in October 2013 who the Ligue 1 champions and leaders travel to face this weekend remains his favourite.
The scorpion-kick against Bastia [was the best], while I think my celebration was even more beautiful, Ibrahimovic told PSG s official website.
In wanting to jump over the billboard, I slipped and fell I suddenly disappeared.
But the ball was in the goal, whi…
James Rodriguez has reiterated he wants to be playing much more for Real Madrid, though he insists his relationship with head coach Zinedine Zidane is respectful.
Despite initially settling in well at the Santiago Bernabeu following his reported €80million move from Monaco in July 2014, the Colombia international has fallen badly out of favour.
There have been constant reports claiming a breakdown in James relationship with Zidane since the former World Cup winner s appointment in January, as the Frenchman continues to prefer other options.
So far this season James has made just four appearances in LaLiga, only two of which were from the start, but he is quick to dismiss suggestions he is on poor terms with Zidane despite his frustration over playing time.

Mexico preserved their 100 per cent record in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying after edging Costa Rica 1-0 away from home.
Orbelin Pineda converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time and it proved to be enough on Sunday as Mexico made it two wins from two games in the Octagonal section of qualifying on the road to Qatar 2022.
Mexico head coach Gerardo Martino did not travel to Costa Rica after undergoing eye surgery and assistant Jorge Teller deputised in the absence of the former Barcelona and Argentina boss.
El Tri were underwhelming in their opening 2-1 win over Jamaica and they made another timid start on the road – Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa forced into a save to deny Costa Rica captain Bryan Ruiz.

Two sides making a return to Nation League duties on Friday night, Bosnia Herzegovina will host Montenegro in what could be an enjoyable affair.
Starting with the hosts, last seen heading into the summer break with an action-packed display on home soil, Bosnia Herzegovina are enjoying what has been an extended purple patch. Eventually claiming a 3-2 victory against Finland on June 14th, the Dragons are unbeaten in each of their opening four Nations League showdowns. Although Ivaylo Petev s men might have endured a worrying four-match losing run on either side of 2022, the Blues should be boosted by a rather rampant record in front of their own supporters. Including that 3-2 win against Finland last time out, Bosnia Herzegovina …
Roma midfielder Alessandro Florenzi has hailed the contribution of new manager Rudi Garcia ahead of the new Serie A season.
Garcia replaced ex-interim manager Aurelio Andreazzoli at the Stadio Olimpico last month and has already recruited Kevin Strootman and Maicon.
And 22-year-old Florenzi, who has been with the club since 2010, believes the new coach is the man to get the best from the players and improve on their sixth-place league finish last season.
He s a really good coach. He talks a lot with the team and wants a lot from us on the pitch, he told Sky Sport.
Compared to last year, he wants less directness and more ball possession. He wants a lot of interchange (between midfielders), passes on the ground and, when possible, balls up towards the strikers.…
Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has left the door open on a potential move to Juventus, despite saying he is happy to stay.
The 27-year-old started just 11 Premier League matches for City last season and has struggled for regular football due to the presence of French left-back Gael Clichy.
Kolarov has been linked with a switch to Serie A champions Juventus recently, and when quizzed about the rumours, he declared that he would be interested.
The Serbian was also at pains to state he was not seeking a way out of Manchester immediately, but added that if he was not a regular under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, then he would be keen on an exit from England.
I m happy at City and it is my intention to remain, Kolarov told Tuttosport.
