Neil Warnock relishing clashes with his former clubs – and Sheffield Wednesday

Neil Warnock will relish facing six of his former clubs next season after agreeing a one-year contract extension to stay on as Huddersfield manager.

The 74-year-old came out of retirement in February for a second spell in charge of the Terriers, having previously been their manager from 1993 to 1995, and guided them to safety in the Championship.

The team recorded seven wins and four draws in their final 15 matches of the campaign as they moved out of the relegation zone and finished 18th in the table.

One more year..

Deila: Forster will leave Celtic eventually

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has admitted the club are only staving off the inevitable by rejecting Southampton s bid for Fraser Forster.

The England goalkeeper played in Tuesday s 4-0 victory over Icelandic outfit KR, which secured a 5-0 aggregate win and progression to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, just hours after Celtic had knocked back a reported £7.5million offer for his services.

Scottish champions Celtic are understood to believe Forster is worth much more, but Deila knows his club will not be able to hold onto the highly-rated gloveman forever.

Nevertheless, the Norwegian hopes to keep Forster beyond the current transfer window.

In the end, something will happen with Fraser, Deila said.

But whether it happens n…

PSG make a bid for Gueye

According to a report from L’Equipe, French champions Paris Saint-Germain have gone ahead and submitted a bid for Idrissa Gueye. Their initial target was Leandro Paredes of Zenit St Petersburg, but after hearing that the Russian club want £40 million for him, they quickly moved on to something new. Gueye has been with Everton since back in 2016 when he made the jump over from Aston Villa, and in that time he’s been able to establish himself as a solid defensive midfielder for the Toffees at Goodison Park.

Paredes is also a Chelsea target and with that kind of competition, many fans can understand PSG’s logic of moving on to something new.

The offer is believed to be in the region of £22 million and while that may be a fairly convincing offer, the question remain…

Juventus 1-4 Real Madrid: Five things we learned as Los Blancos retain Champions League title

Mario Mandzukic scores one of the best Champions League goals this season

Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic deserves a huge credit for his brilliant effort in the first half. The Juventus target man showed great determination in the box with his acrobatic hook which flew over Keylor Navas and in to the Real Madrid net.

For a player of such stature and physique, Mandzukic demonstrated great skill and technique to find a space for himself and lift up in the air for arguably one of the best striker we’ve seen in the competition. The goal was a well-deserved award for the Croatia international who has been criticized and undermined throughout his career. Former Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid has never been given the full credit he deserves for being such a utility man despite hi…

Messi hopes Neymar makes ´complicated´ Barcelona return

Lionel Messi would love to have Neymar back at Barcelona but admitted Paris Saint-Germain are unlikely to let their star asset leave.

Neymar swapped Camp Nou for Parc des Princes in a world-record €222million move in August 2017.

The 26-year-old spent four successful seasons at Barca, winning LaLiga twice and the Champions League once, but a desire to step out of Messi s shadow is believed to have motivated his unexpected exit.

Speculation persists that Neymar could yet seek a return to the Blaugrana and his Brazil team-mate Arthur, who linked up with Spanish champions at the start of the season, said this week he was praying for the rumours to become reality.

Messi shares a similar view but holds reservations over the likelihood of PSG sanctioning t…

Arteta calls for Arsenal ´reset´ following Europa League blow at PSV

Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal are in need of a reset following Thursday s 2-0 Europa League defeat to PSV, which saw the Gunners miss the chance to top Group A with a game to spare.

The Premier League outfit proved uninspired from the off at the Philips Stadion, and had already seen Cody Gakpo and Xavi Simons have goals disallowed by the time Joey Veerman fired the hosts into the lead.

Half-time substitute Luuk de Jong added a second as PSV pressed home their advantage, dealing Arsenal their first defeat of their Europa League campaign.

The Gunners will now need to beat Zurich next week to be assured of top spot in their group, while Thursday s result follows on from a disappointing Premier League draw at Southampton on Sunday, leading Arteta to demand a reaction…

We are exploiting our talent – Zaha hails Palace manager Vieira after beating Man City

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha heaped praise on manager Patrick Vieira after a shock 2-0 victory over defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

Zaha opened the scoring in the sixth minute, becoming the first player to reach 50 goals in the Premier League for Palace, before Aymeric Laporte was sent off for bringing him down and Conor Gallagher wrapped up the points late on.

The unexpected win at the Etihad Stadium saw the Eagles end their run of four consecutive draws and rise to 13th in the table, and Zaha was quick to credit Vieira for the team s positive form.

Vieira ended his playing career at City and then began his coaching career with the north-west club, bossing the reserve team before moving on to sister club New York City FC. He had …

Deco recommends Barca for Neymar

Fluminense playmaker Deco has indicated that Barcelona would be the best destination for Santos starlet Neymar.

The Champions League holders are understood to be one of the parties who have expressed an interest in the 19-year-old sensation, with rivals Real Madrid among their competition for the Brazil international s signature.

Both sides are reportedly doing their utmost to convince Neymar to join their respective teams, despite the player s wish to remain in Brazil until the end of the European season.

And Deco, who played at Barcelona between 2004 and 2008, said the Camp Nou outfit would better suit Neymar s style.

Neymar would find things easier at Barcelona than Real Madrid he would adapt to their playing style better because they have many quali…
